In my opinion, the Italian language is one of the sexiest languages in the world. I’ll admit,French is pretty smooth and the Spaniards are in the race as well (are they really though?) but lets face it,Italian is sexy and romantic. There are certain words and phrases in Italian that can make you buckle at the knees. I’m not talking about dialects, which are found in every corner of Italy (mine included.) Dialects are interesting, sometimes scary and some actually make German sound sexy (if that’s possible?) so dialects aside.
For no rhyme or reason, here are a few of my favorites Italian words and phrases.
Deltaplano –hang-glider (no idea why…but I like it.)
Polpaccio –calf muscle (that’s just fun to say! Polpaccio,Polpaccio,Polpaccio!)
addirittura –Really! (I use it way too much but it’s great)
comunque –anyway (another word I use way too much…sometimes I’ll use it just to use it)
Phrases I like:
Ma dai! –come on! There’s nothing sexier than hearing an Italian women say “Ma dai!”
in bocca al lupo –good luck (The saying, the answer to the saying…it works for me) For those not familiar with the saying. “in bocca al lupo”translates to “in the mouth of the wolf”in which the response would be…Crepi! or Crepi il lupo, which means die or death to the wolf.
What are some of your favorites?

Ciao Joe,
I added some favorite words and phrases I love to say on my blog. Check it out. Damn I love Italian…it is true,it is the most beautiful language.
I don’t know why,but I love tricipiti!
I find myself saying “certo”way to much, especially around the office. It just flows and seems so lax…
What may be my favorite expression in Italian is ‘conosco i miei polli’. My italian teacher taught me this as one of the first phrases in class. We went around the classroom talking about what we did that weekend and when it came to me she said she already knew what I did for the weekend. I asked her how she knew…
“Conosco i miei polli chris,discoteque,ragazze,birra…vero?”
I almost asked her out right there, what an awesome woman haha.
Thanks guys those are all great…and all so random! Chris,I use certo to often much as well.
Ciao Joe and thanks for visiting my blog. I am curious about your italyville.com:when is it going to debut? In any case,in bocca al lupo.
I actually wrote about conosco i miei polli in a post on my blog:it is indeed a funny expression.
My American husband likes to say Boh! which is not really a word, but an expression that means ‘I don’t know.’You can make it stronger by lengthening the ‘o.’
I like simpatico, because it means many things so its complex meaning is difficult to translate with just one word.
Hi Simona…Italyville.com is coming along very well. It should launch at the end of February…so check back! I love Boh! My dad says it all the time…. you’re right, sometimes it’s a quick boh and other times you lengthen the ooo Boooohh!:)
I’ve never heard of “conosco i miei polli”until Chris mentioned it.
Joe,
Thanks for stopping by my blog…and leading me over to you
Some of my fav words in Italian..
allora, boh, acqua pazza and squisto. I don’t know enough *slang* phrases…yet! And however you say…pass the wine please
This is a lovely post and it made me smile (thanks for that).
The one that gets me every single time is ‘fruttivendolo’.
It’s as though someone has put ‘fruit’and ‘vendor’together and then just thought:‘Hey,let’s make that sound Italian.
Thanks Sally! it makes sense doesn’t it?
