SUPER

There’s lots of “SUPER” coming up starting today. It’s Super Bowl Sunday of course and my Patriots are playing the New York Giants. If the Pats win they will truly be Super with a 19-0 record, which has never been done in the history of the NFL. Yesterday there was a report/accusations that the Patriots had video taped the St. Louis Rams during their last walkthrough practice before Super Bowl XXXVI (7 years ago), a game that I watched at my x-boss’ house in Bologna until 4 in the morning by the way. The Patriots won that Super Bowl and started their amazing streak of 4 Super Bowl appearances in 7 years. As many people know by now, the Patriots were fined earlier this year for “Spygate” ($500,000 for the coach, $250,000 more for the team and their first round draft pick) for video taping the Jets sideline in the first game of the season. Comunque, I’m not sure where this recent video taping accusation falls in the “against the rules” department but it apparently is not allowed, otherwise it wouldn’t be an issue. The Patriots have denied this accusation, so only time will tell what will happen or if it’s even true.

I do have some questions:
Why did this come up yesterday, the day before the Patriots play in the Super Bowl? I’m sure if it was a concern, the St. Louis Rams would have made an issue of it sooner.

If the Patriots “cheated” even as a Patriots fan, I think they should be punished (by the NFL). However, from what I hear broadcasters saying, many teams use similar tactics, so it should be looked at throughout the league.

The issue doesn’t stop here however. Sen. Arlen Specter (R. – Pennsylvania) sent the NFL commissioner (Roger Goodell) a letter asking for an explanation. Apparently, Sen. Specter wants to meet with Commissioner Goodell in Washington this week to discuss the situation and plans on launching an investigation with possible Senate Hearings to follow. Investigation? Senate Hearings? I have a few questions I would like to pose to the Gentleman from Pennsylvania in a letter I am drafting.

Dear Sen. Specter: How are things in Washington? I’m so happy to know that the US Senate and House have resolved all the major issues facing our country these days, which in turn has freed up some time for you to investigate the issues facing the NFL. I am even more impressed that you and your colleagues have erased the national deficit and we now have ample funds in which to take on such investigations.
I would like to thank you for the following issues that have OBVIOUSLY been resolved.

  • Our troops must be coming home from Iraq and Afghanistan
  • The economy is back on track!
  • Healthcare will be subsidized or affordable for everyone
  • The Social Security issues are resolved
  • You are lowing our taxes
  • Global warming has been reversed
  • The cost of gas and heating oil is at an all-time low
  • Our children are getting the best education in the world
  • I guess the city of New Orleans must be completely rebuilt
  • We no longer have companies moving overseas and leaving our citizens unemployed.
  • The housing market is strong.
  • We finally achieved world peace:)

The list goes on Senator…. we are a lucky people to have such a great public servant such as yourself. I for one am proud of you and I’m sure the people of Pennsylvania even more so. Come to think of it Senator, give yourself a raise…. oh wait, you’ve already done that this year. What the hell, we’ve got the money!

Senator, I think someone should investigate you for wasting our time and tax payer money and let the NFL handle the NFL.

Which leads me to my final SUPER…. SUPER Tuesday is this week. I hope we can elect a leader to get us out of this mess.

I like your list…I know what candidate I’m voting for who will, at least, take those issues seriously. I can’t wait for Super Tuesday, too.

I read your post on italian music. Have you ever listened to Radio Italia on the computer? It has a nice mix of music, the traffic report (it’s always intenso) and the soccer updates. My old standby favorite artist is Naples’ own, Pino Daniele and the newest is Kylee Kate Sargant, an Aussie soprano and Andrea Del Principe who sing Buonanotte Amore. It’s glorious. I haven’t been sucessful either in getting italian music downloaded off the net. I have bought some cd’s at a specialty italian bookstore in San Francisco and the Virgin Records Megastore and I tend to stick to the greatest hits or live concert albums to play it safe.

We can only hope that they do what they claim they will. I have someone in mind too.

I’ll check out Radio Italia. Thanks!

Sorry about your Pats this weekend joe. I thought it was a great game but then again I was rooting for the Giants. Both defenses should’ve walked out of that stadium proud men. The giants did the one thing that no other team could this past year, they got to Brady consistently. I’ll be sure to take pictures of the parade tomorrow as it passes by my office…

So you don’t completely hate me, keep your head up, you’re probably going to win the NBA championship and, unless my Mets have something to say about it, the world series as well..

  • Megan in Liguria

Nice letter, hope he listens (ha!)…Let me know if you are going to make it to Liguria this year. Give some thought to staying in Lerici! :)

Hey Chris, – It was a great game. After Eli escaped a sure sack and threw it to that receiver’s helmet…. you just knew the football gods were looking out for them. Well deserved.

Megan, we will def. look into Lerici. I went to their website and the pictures are beautiful. Thanks!
