I like England but for me, it doesn’t feel entirely European. I can’t put my finger on why but I’ve always felt that way. Spain on the other hand is entirely European….. and Barcelona is a beautiful European city. I thought I would share a few photos. I’ll be back again in June for a week as we are organizing an event for some clients, which is also why I haven’t posted more (I’ll let you in on that further down the road.)
Sagrada Familia is truly an amazing work of architecture. The cranes are not there because it is being renovated…. they are there because it is being built! Which adds to the beauty of Sagrada Familia. It was started in the late 1800′s and estimated to be complete by 2025.

It’s because the queue! Although, they are not as proper as they used to be. I went to London after Spain on my first European trip and the queue totally freaked me out. I couldn’t figure out why people were lined up on the curb until the bus pulled up… No need to worry about the queue in Spain where cutting in line is an art form! (We even had a nun cut in front of us!)
I can imagine that I would feel the same way about England vs Spain. Nice shots…..you know which one I am drooling over for Travel Photo Friday…right?
I feel the same about England…your right it doesn;t feel European…at all, and I have to live here!!! I don’t like England that much…
Europe to me is across the water..France, Spain, Italy, Portugal etc etc…those countrys have a different feel about them, the shops, the markets, the people..I can’t wait to go to Italy again.
just like the Italians homebody…. what line?
Robin, whichever one you like:)
Anne, don’t get me wrong… I like the UK but you know what I mean… just not as laid back.
Completely agree on UK v Spain, Italy etc, it’s the same with Ireland!! I love Barcelona, great food and shopping but Rome is still my favourite – of course:)
Damn that dunkin’ coffee!! haha
Hi Joe!
Getting Lily at Dunkins I wish in Lynnfield. I just paid $14.95 at Williams Sonoma for Lily. I will remember to purchase that to take home the next time I am in Italia. Love your blog. Cynthia
I felt the same when I saw a McDonald’s in Bologna!
Hi Cynthia, Thanks! I didn’t get the illy at Dunkin Donutes… it probably would have been a watered down version if I had. It seems like illy and Lavazza are the big global players but there are many smaller brands that are better in my opinion and much cheaper! you just can’t find them in William Sonoma
Hi Sally! I know… crazy right? The McDonald’s that upsets me the most however is the one across from the Pantheon in Rome… uncalled for.
I’m biased I know so please excuse me but I love England for its very Englishness. Queues, cream teas and fish and chips I could go on… I agree it has a very different vibe from it’s European counterparts but that’s great who wants everywhere to be the same. That’s why we travel.
Your trip to Barcelona looks wonderful, you lucky thing. It really is a beautiful city. Did you go into any of the Cava bars? Great food too. – ciao Amanda
Joe I love love Barça!
)))
Thank’s to visit my blog..
When I went to Barcelona I was THRILLED to find a bagel shop… I bought a dozen, brought them back to Rome & put them in my freezer. I adored Barcelona because it felt entirely European but offered some typical “American” comforts like dunkin, bagels, and some damn good hard-core vegetarian eateries… and by vegetarian I mean places that serve more than veggies, places that are reminiscent of Cali.
That city has a great balance between historic and modern- Viva Barcelona!
