Happy New Year to all. It seems like the holiday season that never ends…. yet here we are! But wait,“la festa della befana”(the Epiphany) is tomorrow! so all the good little Italian boys and girls will be waiting for “la befana”to ride around on her broom and bring them treats. Read more on la befana here.
By popular demand here’s more on “la grispellissima”in Feroleto Antico. The event is organized every December 8th in celebration of the feast of the immaculate conception (Immacolata) and has been a yearly tradition since 1974. The great thing about all of Feroleto Antico’s festivals is that they have “la babba”which is a person dressed in traditional Calabrian clothing that comes out into the piazza dancing and the dance culminates when her head explodes!! Not her real head as you can see………watch this very brief video.
My mom’s from Pianopoli, and she always makes Grispele. She’s made them with dough,or with a potato dough and parsley. Going to try to make the dough ones myself next Christmas. Love your page. Just saw your video of Toto Cutugno. Love him soooo. Saw him in Niag. Falls,Cda (my home town) a couple years ago. He’s still cute!
