Fantastic Photos

It doesn’t matter where you are in Italy, there are always groups of Italian men chatting in circles about life, calcio, politics and more.  The passion in their voices, the gestures, the facial expressions…it’s priceless!

On another note…I booked a trip yesterday.  I’m headed to Calabria next week.  Why?…Why not?

Thanks for the wonderful photos!  I’ll keep posting them so keep an eye out for yours. Click on them to enlarge.  Buon weekend a tutti!

  • Seeing that photo online makes me nostalgic for a trip myself. Have a great time in Calabria!

  • Men chatting in groups…That’s it! The women are gardening, cooking, cleaning –catching up with their blogging buddies…Lovely photos and you’ve got a good eye to put these together.

  • Calabria! Now there’s a place where they are waiting for me.
Those gossipy men with their outdoor ‘salotto’. Positano has them right at the entrance to the town ,then in strategic vantage points along the one winding road. Nothing escapes them !

  • Have a fantastic time in Calabria! I hope the weather is ok for you.

  • Hi Joe ,Great article,This gentlemen are everywhere, and the hands behind the back while walking!!

  • Joe –Have a great trip to Calabria. I can’t wait to see what yummy recipes you post on your return.

  • That’s one of the main reasons I love walking through Little Italy here in San Diego. There are small groups of old Italian men talking garrulously and gesticulating wildly, and even though I don’t know what they’re saying,I love every minute of it.

  • Susan from Food Blogga:

I didn’t know there were Italian old men in San Diego still speaking Italian. I though Italian Americans were more homogenized into the American culture.

    Joe:

Very nice pictures indeed. Hope you have a wonderful time in Italy. You seem to come here pretty often. My wife has a grandfather from Calabria, around the Cosenza area, although she was born in Rome, like me.

Your comment on my blog has sparked good conversation. I have to thank you for that.

And I was wondering if also American men have this habit of talking like that,in groups.

    Thank you and ciao.

  • Have fun Joe,I know you will.

  • When on holiday in Liguria,I saw on the beach..one group of men under a cover playing cards and chatting and further along a group of ladies, wonder if they were the wives of the men..all were chatting too!

  • I guess you’re probably home already but I hope that you got your fix of Italia, that you had a good time and that you saw some sunshine. Can’t wait to read about it.

  • i have so many pictures of italians talking in squares. i love it…can’t get enough of it –esp. when they are elderly. it’s the one place where i’d want to be old in –they look like they are having so much fun. go you for being spontaneous –and w/ the euro dropping a bit and airline prices low,why the heck not?

  • I got a big smile from this post. Here are my pics of chatting Italians, plus one irresistable of and old man with a small boy. http://budurl.com/Italianmenchatting
