World’s Best Pizza!

My trip to New York City last week was an interesting one.  With so many restaurants to choose from it seem like everyone is looking for an edge over the competition and you can’t blame them…especially in tough times.  Here are two examples:

Lombardi’s:Apparently someone at Zagat has tried ALL the pizza on the planet.

Ben’s Pizza:I’ve never even heard of Ben’s!

Note:I haven’t tried either (although I have read some great reviews on Lombardi’s)…could it be true??

Note2:Dear Ben,  I’m hoping Ben stands for Benito or Benedetto because we all know the person who makes “The most Famous Pizza in the World”is Italian.

Note3:In my opinion, the places that actually make great pizza shouldn’t have to put it on their sign…

Note4:I had a great pizza in Panzano in Chianti at a place called “Conca d’Oro”and (according to them) they took 3rd place at  the World Pizza Competition…I should have asked them if they knew Ben.

The best pizza I ever had in Italy used to be in a neighbouring town. They were sooo good that my sister in law used to bike down from Milan and you can imagine how much choice she has there! Unfortunately, the chef moved –the pizzas are still excellent, but not as mouth wateringly delicious as before. Shame!

P.S. I never heard of Ben either and as an ex Londoner didn’t bump into him there either.

  • You know -my son and I went to a show and walking the threemiles to the theatre –walked by a hole-in-the-wall pizza place and went in. Everyone was screaming at each other (very NYC) and it was terrific pizza. You never know.

  • omg –bens pizza is not good -they gave themselves that title which is just PLAIN LAME. as for lombardi’s –i will say that they are some of the best pizza in new york city. the world? hmmm, that’s a big claim. and that zagats reviewer must’ve been full after trying ALL the pizza in the world! personally, lombardi’s is one of my faves here in nyc but i really also love arturos. both different but both great. joes is good too and a few others that everyone knows. but lombardi’s does have a high place on my nyc pizza list.
